The next chapter has begun in the revitalization of Metrocenter Mall, as the new Walmart Supercenter opens its doors at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Officials with Walmart, the City of Phoenix and community leaders will be on-hand to speak during the grand-opening event, which will include food samples, shopping specials and free shopping bags to customers (while supplies last).
The project represents the single largest capital investment in Metrocenter Mall in decades. The 148,000-square-foot store includes a full-service pharmacy and a complete line of groceries including organic selections and local products. It was constructed on the site of the former Broadway building, which had been vacant since 2006. The new Walmart Supercenter is located at 9600 N. Metro Parkway W., on the south side of Metrocenter Mall, near 29th and Dunlap avenues.
The store is hiring up to 300 people, and will have set hours (not 24-7).
