Recruitment and certification are underway for lifeguards, swimming lesson instructors, pool managers, cashiers and other jobs that support the operation of City of Phoenix public pools this upcoming summer. Lifeguards for the city’s pools earn $13.50 an hour and must be at least 15 years old. They must obtain a lifeguard certification to work in those jobs. Classes for certification are provided year-round.

Swim lesson instructors also must be at least 15 years old to work for the city and are required to earn a separate certification. They earn $14.49 an hour.

The city also hires pool cashiers, who earn $12.72 an hour, to offer customer service and use a computer to register people for swim programs. City pools are typically open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
