With the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Prescription Drug Plan enrollment period underway, an expert is providing tips on how to obtain the best coverage.

Millions of people in the country can sign up, switch plans or leave a healthcare plan to meet their needs through Tuesday, Dec. 7. Yvonne Kudray-Baraban, an independent broker who specializes in selling Medicare insurance through her company Medicare Benefits Consulting, L.L.C., said it is important to compare plan options. You can have original Medicare (Part A and Part B), you can select Medicare and a supplemental plan (also known as a Medigap plan) with or without a part D plan Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) or you can choose a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C). This is the time of year to review whether your current plan has changed and to research what other companies are providing for the next year.

Many companies will provide PPO options or expand upon existing PPO offerings and many Medicare HMO plans do not require referrals next year as long as their subscribers stay in network. The advantage of working with an independent broker is that this professional will work for you and can offer more than just one option to address your needs, Kudray-Baraban said. You can reach her at 602-575-0622 or Yvonne.Kudray@cox.net. To learn more, visit www.medicare.gov.
